About the PfCO Drone Pilot Training Course

Our CAA approved two day ground schools are led by our expert instructors from our training centres across the UK and are designed to provide you with everything you need get you up and flying your unmanned aerial vehicle and help you to get your Permission for Commercial Operations.

What is included in the Ground School course?

  • Web based training and pre course reading
  • Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved two-day ground school.
  • Lunch and refreshments
  • A free re-sit of the ground school examination (if required)
  • Flight assessment (demonstrating pilot competency on a single drone platform)
  • Assistance in the production of your form SRG 1320, application to the CAA for your Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO)
  • Assistance in the production of your operations manual if required for your PfCO (we provide a template)
  • A National Qualified Entity (NQE) recommendation with your application for your PfCO
  • An independent review of your CAA application including your:
    • Operations manual
    • Public liability insurance certificate
    • Pilot competency (Flight Assessment report)
    • Submission of your application (SRG 1320, to include supporting documentation as per your application) to the CAA with a report and recommendations from us for the granting of Permissions and/or exemptions.

Distance Learning

Initially you will engage in pre-course distance learning using web-based teaching modules and pre-course reading material that will deliver basic aviation principles. This will allow you to learn at your own pace and give you the flexibility to revisit any of the training material at any stage.

Classroom Learning

All of our instructors are highly experienced in commercial drone operations before joining our teaching team. With a mixture of civilian and military experience, first class training standards are assured at all times. With a limit of fifteen students per course, the intensive training ensures a deeper understanding of the material, and provides networking opportunities for all attendees. The written exam is included on the second day of the course.

Flight Assessment

The flight assessment determines a drone pilot's competency by looking specifically at your application of knowledge and commercial operating procedures. You will cover all aspects of planning, pre-deployment and on-site risk assessment to ensure that your UAV operation meets minimum legal and safety requirements. CAA Administration Fees


Students are not required to hold insurance to enrol on to the PfCO Drone Pilot Training Course, however they will be required to hold as a minimum, a valid insurance certificate sufficient to cover all third party liabilities prior to attending their Flight Assessment. We can advise on appropriate insurers if required.

In addition to our course fees, students should note the CAA administration fee for your application for Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO). Current CAA administration fees are: £247 (exempt from VAT) and are paid directly to the CAA at the end of the process.
